Data Deletion & Account Deletion
AksharWAP provides different deletion options depending on how you interacted with our platform.
Updated 12 August 2026
Deletion options
- • If you are an AksharWAP customer: You have an AksharWAP workspace and may request deletion of your workspace and associated data.
- • If you received a WhatsApp message from a business using AksharWAP: That business determines how it uses and manages your customer information. AksharWAP processes certain information on the business’s behalf. Please contact that business directly to request deletion of your information.
Delete your AksharWAP workspace
If you are an AksharWAP customer, you can use the self-service deletion option where available.
- • Sign in to AksharWAP using an authorized account.
- • Open Settings → Account.
- • Review and disconnect any connected WhatsApp Business Account if required.
- • Select Delete Workspace and follow the confirmation steps.
- • Only an authorized workspace owner or administrator with the required permissions can initiate workspace deletion.
- • Before deleting your workspace, export or download any information you may need in the future.
Workspace deletion is intended to remove the workspace and its associated data from AksharWAP systems in accordance with our applicable deletion, retention, backup, security and legal requirements.
Once deletion has been completed, the workspace may not be recoverable.
Request deletion by email
If you cannot access your AksharWAP account, or if you prefer to submit a deletion request directly, contact privacy@aksharwap.com using the subject “Data Deletion Request”.
Where possible, include:
- • Your registered email address
- • Workspace name
- • WhatsApp Business Account or phone number associated with the workspace
- • Any other information that can help us identify the relevant account
For security reasons, we may take reasonable steps to verify the identity and authority of the requester before processing a deletion request.
After verification, we will process the request within the period required by applicable law and our internal procedures. The time required may vary depending on the type of data involved, technical requirements, legal obligations and whether the information must be retained for legitimate business, security or compliance purposes.
WhatsApp Business Account and Meta connection
When you connect a WhatsApp Business Account to AksharWAP through Meta’s supported onboarding or integration flow, AksharWAP may receive information and authorization credentials required to provide the requested WhatsApp services.
Depending on the integration and permissions granted, this may include information associated with your WhatsApp Business Account, business phone number, messaging configuration and WhatsApp-related identifiers.
AksharWAP does not receive your Facebook password through this integration.
Disconnecting WhatsApp from AksharWAP
You can disconnect your WhatsApp Business Account from AksharWAP through the relevant WhatsApp account settings in your AksharWAP workspace.
Disconnecting the account prevents AksharWAP from using the connection for future access, subject to any processing that is required for security, compliance or other legitimate purposes.
Removing AksharWAP from Meta/Facebook
Where applicable, you may also manage or remove AksharWAP’s permissions through the relevant Meta account settings.
Removing an integration or permission from Meta may prevent future access, but it does not necessarily remove information that has already been stored in your AksharWAP workspace.
If you want information stored by AksharWAP to be deleted, use the workspace deletion process or submit a deletion request to privacy@aksharwap.com.
What happens to your data
The following describes how different categories of information are generally handled when a deletion request is processed.
| Data category | General handling |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp access credentials and connection information | Access is disabled or the connection is removed when the WhatsApp account is disconnected or the workspace is deleted, subject to technical and security requirements. |
| Account and workspace information | Deleted or de-identified as part of the applicable deletion process, subject to information that must be retained. |
| Team members, roles and invitations | Removed as part of workspace deletion, subject to applicable retention requirements. |
| Contacts, tags, attributes and segments | Deleted or de-identified as part of the applicable deletion process, subject to applicable retention requirements. |
| Conversations, messages and media | Removed from AksharWAP systems as part of the applicable deletion process, subject to applicable retention, security and backup requirements. |
| Campaigns and campaign-related information | Removed or de-identified as part of the applicable deletion process, subject to applicable retention requirements. |
| Templates and analytics | Removed or de-identified as applicable, subject to legitimate retention requirements. |
| Backups | Information may remain temporarily in backup systems until those backups are securely rotated or overwritten in accordance with our backup procedures. |
| Billing, payment and tax-related records | Certain information may be retained where required by applicable law, accounting requirements, dispute resolution, fraud prevention or other legitimate purposes. |
| Security and audit information | Certain information may be retained for security, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, system integrity, legal compliance and dispute resolution. |
The exact handling and retention period may depend on the nature of the information, the reason it was collected, applicable legal requirements and our technical and operational processes.
Retention and backups
Deleting information from active systems does not necessarily mean that every copy is removed from every system at the same moment.
For example, information may temporarily remain in:
- • Encrypted backups
- • Disaster-recovery systems
- • Security logs
- • Fraud-prevention systems
- • Legal or compliance records
- • Other systems where retention is required for legitimate purposes
Such information is subject to applicable access controls and retention procedures and is not retained for longer than reasonably necessary for the applicable purpose, except where a longer period is required or permitted by law.
Information we may need to retain
A deletion request does not necessarily require AksharWAP to delete every piece of information in all circumstances.
We may retain limited information where necessary or permitted for purposes such as:
- • Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- • Accounting, taxation and financial record requirements
- • Prevention and investigation of fraud, abuse or security incidents
- • Protection of our systems and services
- • Resolution of disputes and enforcement of agreements
- • Establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims
- • Meeting other legitimate legal or regulatory obligations
Where appropriate, retained information may be restricted, minimized or de-identified.
If a business messaged you on WhatsApp
If you received a WhatsApp message from a business that uses AksharWAP, the business is generally responsible for determining why and how your customer information is used.
AksharWAP may process certain information on behalf of that business as part of providing messaging and related services.
If you want the business to stop contacting you or delete your customer record, you should contact the business directly.
You may also use any opt-out or unsubscribe mechanism provided by the business.
If you are unable to contact the business, you may email privacy@aksharwap.com. Please provide the WhatsApp number from which you received the message and the number or account identifier associated with your request, where applicable.
We may use this information to identify the relevant AksharWAP customer and, where appropriate, forward your request to that business for handling.
AksharWAP will not disclose information about another customer or business except where appropriate and permitted by applicable law.
What happens after workspace deletion
Deleting an AksharWAP workspace may terminate access to the associated AksharWAP services and subscription.
Any subscription, payment, credit, wallet balance, promotional credit or other commercial entitlement will be handled according to the applicable AksharWAP Terms of Service, subscription terms and refund policy.
Deletion of your AksharWAP workspace does not by itself delete your WhatsApp Business Account maintained by Meta.
Your WhatsApp Business Account remains subject to the terms, policies and systems of Meta.
If your WhatsApp Business Account is eligible to be connected to another provider, you may manage that connection separately through the applicable Meta or WhatsApp Business settings.
Deletion requests and verification
To protect customer accounts and prevent unauthorized deletion, AksharWAP may request reasonable information to verify the identity and authority of the person submitting a deletion request.
We may also need to clarify which workspace, account or information the request relates to before processing it.
If a request cannot be completed because certain information must be retained under applicable law or for a legitimate purpose, we may explain the applicable limitation where legally permitted.
